Mims Graeber from Oxford, MS

Aside from watch TCM, what do you do?

I run a small music shop in Oxford Mississippi, servicing and repairing guitars. In my downtime, I'm either fiddling with my synthesizers or making trips to the local book store and record store, always looking for something new.

What’s your favorite movie snack?

Charcuterie boards! Hard to beat a good meat and cheese movie night.

What’s your favorite part of TCM?

TCM Underground! I love being able to pop on the tv late at night and be greeted with B movies like Gymkata or monumental foreign horror films such as Kwaidan.

What’s your favorite movie genre?

I will always be partial to Westerns as they made me interested in classic film. At the moment though, the comedies of Preston Sturges and similar filmmakers have my heart. Also have a huge sweet spot for Yakuza Noir.

Who’s your favorite actor or actress or filmmaker of all time? And why?

John Carpenter. I love everything about his films. The ingenuity used on these older, more rudimentary sets always impresses me. His stories and messages are timeless, and even when they seem their cheesiest (fight scene from They Live, anyone?), they still age like a fine wine, able to be enjoyed for several different, equally valid reasons. He's a testament to the idea that practicality will (mostly) always be more memorable than digital composition.

Who would you be thrilled to meet, and what would you say?

I would love to have a mundane conversation with David Lynch. I wouldn't try to put on airs or ask questions that he's heard a million times. I'd just like to talk about the weather or something. I just enjoy hearing him.

What do you collect?

Synthesizers and vinyl records, as well as a few shelves stocked with Criterion films.

If you had to pick just one, what would be your favorite movie?

Chungking Express. I will always come back to this film. No other movie fills me with such feelings of hope and serenity. It's therapeutic!
