Erika Lee from Portland, OR
Aside from watch TCM, what do you do?
I live and work in Portland, OR for a tax firm! Besides watching movies and being an overall film buff, I love to read, bake, take extracurricular courses, play the piano, and exercise!
What’s your favorite movie snack?
It's a tie between popcorn and m&ms. They're both so good!
What’s your favorite part of TCM?
I really love the variety of programming that is offered! I love being able to watch movies that I have not heard of before and experience new genres.
What’s your favorite movie genre?
My favorite movie genre is romantic dramas because I love movies that incorporate heart and a love story, but that can also throw in some dramatic elements that create suspense, tension, emotion, and insightful plot components.
Who’s your favorite actor or actress or filmmaker of all time? And why?
My favorite actress of all time is Olivia de Havilland! I absolutely adore her! I think she can create so many characters in a variety of roles and she's always a joy to watch.
I think she's such a superb acting talent in that I can watch something like Gone with the Wind in which she plays the sweet Melanie Wilkes and then I can watch her play Miriam in Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte and she's the complete opposite of Melanie. She's much more cruel and domineering in that role!
Greta Garbo is definitely a very close second though! I absolutely adore her as well! It's amazing how she can convey so much emotion with subtle face movements.
Who would you be thrilled to meet, and what would you say?
I would be thrilled to meet either Olivia de Havilland or Leonard Maltin! Olivia de Havilland is my favorite actress and I would have so much to ask her from how she got started in her career, to what her favorite movie is, to how she likes living in Paris, France.
I actually saw Leonard a few times last year at the TCM Film Festival, but I would love to talk more in depth with him about film analysis and how he goes about critiquing movies.
What do you collect?
I collect bookmarks, mugs, DVDs (I have about 500), and celebrity autographs (I currently have 28 of them, some of which include: Ginger Rogers, Alan Rickman, Olivia de Havilland, Joan Fontaine, James Earl Jones, Fred Astaire, Gregory Peck, and Ed Asner).
If you had to pick just one, what would be your favorite movie?
If I had to pick just one favorite movie, it would have to be Vertigo from 1958. This is probably one of my favorites because it was the very first Alfred Hitchcock movie that I ever watched and I loved it so much that I started watching more and more classic movies!
A close second would be The Heiress from 1949 with Olivia de Havilland, Montgomery Clift, and Ralph Richardson. I think this movie has the perfect blend of superb storytelling, acting, and directing to create a great dramatic film.
