Kirk Freeman from Frisco, TX
When you’re not watching TCM, what do you do?
I am a director in marketing communications for the largest customer-owned health insurer in the United States and fourth largest overall. I'm in my 30th year with the company. Furthermore, I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife and great sons. We are avid Florida State University and University of North Texas (UNT, where Joan Blondell and Ann Sheridan attended) football fans. Go Mean Green and Go 'Noles!
What’s your favorite movie snack?
Perhaps not a snack to all, but I enjoy a good single malt Scotch with classic films.
What’s your favorite part of TCM?
Besides the great films themselves, I pay careful attention to the intro and exit commentaries to the films by Robert, Ben, and others. Even if I've seen a film multiple times, I often record the film just to watch the comments. I usually always learn something new.
What’s your favorite movie genre?
Pre-Code and Film Noir
Who’s your favorite actor or actress or filmmaker of all time? And why?
Bogart, because well, he's Bogart. Audrey Hepburn (beautiful inside and out), Stanwyck (what a talent and film portfolio), Norma Shearer (especially her Pre-Codes), Myrna Loy, Mary Astor, and last but not least, Joan Blondell.
Who would you be thrilled to meet, and what would you say?
I'd love to meet Robert Osborne and talk Pre-Code movies for a few minutes. What a wealth of knowledge he has!
What do you collect?
I am an avid collector of Beatles memorabilia; Star Trek; rare books and autographs; Stanwyck; Audrey Hepburn; vintage, original Pre-Code stills; vinyl LPs from Sinatra, Julie London, etc.
If you had to pick just one, what would be your favorite movie?
I have a motion picture degree from Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, so when asked this question, I usually reply Citizen Kane (a masterpiece), but today I might pick the Capra/Stanwyck piece The Bitter Tea of General Yen. I consider myself very lucky to have seen a recent showing of General Yen (the event was arranged by a friend) with in-person commentary by Stanwyck biographer and exceptional book editor Victoria Wilson. It was truly a wonderful afternoon.
